Meet Our Spring 2021 Reporting Fellows
This spring we’re focusing on K-12 education and the return to the classroom after virtual schooling. Reach out if you have tips or suggestions!
We’re excited to introduce you to our Spring 2021 Lede New Orleans Reporting Fellows. The Spring 2021 application cycle was our most competitive yet, drawing applications from Gentilly to Destrehan and neighborhoods in between. Our six emerging journalists share an interest in writing and multimedia, and a passion for building a more equitable media landscape in New Orleans.
In addition to our new Fellows, we head into the Spring 2021 session with three returning Senior Fellows, all returning fellowship alumni, and five Coaches, who will guide Fellows and Senior Fellows in their learning.
The Spring 2021 cohort will spend the next 14 weeks learning the fundamentals of storytelling and community reporting, while documenting stories about K-12 education and the return to the classroom after a year of virtual learning. Their reporting will focus on marginalized communities in and around New Orleans.
Even as we continue to deal with COVID-19 uncertainty, we’re committed to producing journalism for and with people impacted by the topics we’re covering. Please help us spread the word about this project, and share any tips or suggestions you have by emailing ledeneworleans@gmail.com.
Our Spring 2021 Fellows are Dariel Duarte, Forest Gaines Jr., Autumn Jemison, Matt Valerio, Mally Welch and Kels J. Whitmore.
Our Spring 2021 Senior Fellows are Trevon Cole (read Trevon’s recent work), Nikka Troy (read Nikka’s recent work) and Montero Morton (read Montero’s recent work).
