Meet the Summer 2024 Community Reporting Fellows
The summer cohort is exploring what access to parks and recreation space looks like for Black and brown communities in New Orleans.
Allow us to introduce the Summer 2024 Community Reporting Fellows!
The six-member cohort started their training in April and has spent the summer researching, interviewing and making media exploring what access to public parks, recreation and greenspace looks like for Black and brown communities in New Orleans.
The questions the cohort is reporting on include:
- What is the history of well-known parks and public greenspace in New Orleans?
- What has historical access to greenspace looked like for Black and brown people?
- Why is access to public parks, recreation and greenspace important for Black and brown communities?
- How can we ensure our public spaces serve our communities?
The summer cohort wrapped up their 16-week training program earlier this month. They will spend the next month editing, finalizing and publishing an original multimedia reporting series, as well as supporting events to connect community members to information about parks and greenspace.
For their first assignment, the fellows interviewed and profiled each other to share more about themselves and their reasons for joining the fellowship. Click the names below to read more about each of the Summer 2024 Community Reporting Fellows!
