Lede New Orleans was founded in 2020 to give creative professionals of color, age 18-25, the skills, tools, and resources to step in, make community media, and close the information gap in New Orleans: a majority Black and Latinx city where white-dominant media spaces remain the norm. A small group of media creators determines what stories are told, enabling pervasive narratives that surround BIPOC communities, particularly youth, to flourish, resulting in disconnect and disengagement from civic life.
